Quick Start
RoomBridge keeps native Rooms in the current Revit host model synchronized with Rooms from one explicitly selected Revit link.
- Open the host Revit model and make sure the architectural source link is loaded.
- Set the required linked models to Room Bounding when their geometry is needed to bound host Rooms.
- Choose JW Garage → Advanced Tools → Set Source Link and select the architectural link whose Rooms RoomBridge should follow.
- Run JW Garage → Synchronize Rooms.
- Review the state RoomBridge reports and approve only the writes you intend to make.
- Run Synchronize Rooms again. A healthy synchronized model should report no pending changes and MODEL WRITES: 0.
Set Source Link
RoomBridge v1.0 uses one explicitly selected source-link instance per host model. That selection is saved with the host project.
- Supporting links may remain Room Bounding ON without contributing Rooms to RoomBridge.
- RoomBridge tracks the selected link instance by persistent identity; it does not silently switch to another duplicate instance.
- If the saved source link is unloaded, deleted, or no longer present, RoomBridge blocks safely and reports MODEL WRITES: 0.
- Use Advanced Tools → Set Source Link to deliberately choose a replacement source.
Synchronize Rooms
Synchronize Rooms is the normal production command. It evaluates source Rooms, existing RoomBridge identities, semantic changes and geometry state, then routes the operator to the appropriate review or approval path.
Typical states
- Synchronized: no actionable changes; no model writes.
- New: source Room has no persistent local RoomBridge identity and may be eligible for creation.
- Changed: source Number or Name has changed since the last approved synchronization.
- Local Edit: local visible values differ in a way that requires operator review rather than blind overwrite.
- Orphaned: a local RoomBridge Room has persistent identity but its original source Room cannot currently be resolved.
- Geometry issue: source identity is intact but local Room geometry/location no longer matches the source condition.
Review Issues
The Review Issues menu provides read-only inspection commands. These are useful when you want to understand the model state without authorizing changes.
Read-only reviews should report MODEL WRITES: 0.
Advanced Tools
Advanced Tools contains setup, recovery and specialist commands that are intentionally separated from the everyday operator workflow.
Set Source Link
Saves the architectural source-link instance that RoomBridge should use. This setup action does not create or modify Rooms.
Identity and orphan tools
Specialist commands may be available for identity stamping, orphan resolution and other controlled recovery workflows. Use these deliberately and review the command dialog before approving writes.
Understanding RoomBridge status messages
MODEL WRITES: 0
No Room elements were created, renamed, renumbered, moved or otherwise modified by that command run.
WRITE GROUP: COMMITTED
The approved write operation completed and final verification passed.
ROLLED BACK / READBACK FAILED
RoomBridge did not accept the final verification result. The write group is rolled back rather than leaving a partially validated model state.
Source unavailable / source link missing
RoomBridge cannot safely resolve the saved source. It blocks instead of inferring deletions, orphans or replacements from incomplete source information.
Phases and Design Options
RoomBridge uses the active host-view phase and Revit link phase mapping to evaluate the corresponding source Rooms. It does not rely on identical phase names between host and linked models.
Main Model Rooms and Rooms in the primary Design Option are supported. Ambiguous placed Rooms in secondary Design Options are treated conservatively and can block synchronization until the source condition is clarified.
Troubleshooting
My supporting architectural/base link needs Room Bounding ON, but I do not want its Rooms synchronized.
That is supported. Leave Room Bounding ON when its elements are needed for host Room geometry, and use Set Source Link to select only the architectural link whose Rooms should participate.
RoomBridge says the saved source link is no longer present.
Do not expect RoomBridge to switch sources automatically. Verify the correct link instance, then run Advanced Tools → Set Source Link to explicitly establish the intended source.
I see NEW Rooms even though I expected matches.
Use Review Rooms and confirm the correct source link, phase, level mapping and local Room condition. Do not create duplicates until the source and identity state are understood.
A linked Room moved.
Use Check Geometry and Review Moves. RoomBridge is designed to relocate an existing persistently identified local Room when a safe move can be qualified rather than deleting and recreating it.
The source model is unloaded.
Reload the source before synchronization. RoomBridge deliberately blocks source-dependent change/orphan inference when the saved source is unavailable.
Safety model
RoomBridge is designed around explicit review, persistent identity and final readback rather than blind bulk mutation.
- Read-only review tools perform no Room writes.
- Approved writes are verified after execution.
- Failed final verification causes the write group to roll back.
- Missing source information blocks synchronization rather than generating destructive assumptions.
- Duplicate identity and ambiguous source conditions are treated as conflicts that must be resolved.
